What is ultrasound?
Often both x-rays and ultrasound are performed together.The x-ray shows the size,shape and position of the organs, and the ultrasound allows the veterinarian to see inside the organs.
Pregnancy ultrasound is usually performed from 30 days after mating to evaluate the size and viability of the foetus. To determine the number of pups or kitens and x-rays can be taken from 42 days after mating. Pregnant animals are not sedated for this procedure.
How is an ultrasound done?
Your pet needs to be fasted for at least 12 hours.
The area to be examined will be clipped to produce good quality images.
Most patients are lightly sedated for the procedure
