Meet Our Team

Michael Hawkins

Veterinarian (BVSc)

Michael joined Glenorie Vet Clinic in 1987 when it was just a small two Vet practice in quite small premises. There have been huge changes over the years in the development of the Clinic facilities & equipment especially with supportive and diagnostic capabilities on site. Michael enjoys all aspects of mixed Veterinary practice, with particular interest in surgery, ruminants & dentistry – it is a wonderful feeling doing a thorough dental cleaning on an aged dog & having owners report that their pet seems years younger once they have had any diseased teeth extracted & the rest cleaned properly. Spare time sees Michael walking his dog Ellie on bush tracks, or with a backpack in the Blue Mountains, Tassie, or preferably on an icy mountain peak in a remote part of the world.

Jenni Taylor

Veterinarian (BVSc)

Jenni joined the GVC team in 2019 after previously working in both busy small and mixed practice clinics in Sydney. Prior to graduating from Sydney university as a veterinarian, Jenni had been working at a Vet clinic initially as a kennel hand and then a veterinary nurse since the ripe old age of 12. Jenni loves the wide range of animals that are treated at GVC, enjoying equally both large and small medicine and surgery. Jenni’s favourite part of the job is meeting lots of lovely pets and the people who care for them. During her spare time Jenni takes her two dogs – Doug (Kelpie x Staffy) And Moss (Husky) for bushwalks and bike rides to deplete their boundless energy levels (so far unsuccessful) – and going on trail rides with her 4yo Standardbred “Bruce” (not named by Jenni ).

Hope Trostian

Veterinarian (BVetBiol/BVSc)

Hope has been a member of the GVC team since August 2019, after graduating from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. Hope enjoys working with all animals, from pocket pets, cats, dogs to livestock and horses. Hope has a keen interest in alpacas and can often be found on days off, helping with farm duties and veterinary work on her family’s alpaca stud in Marulan. The rest of Hope’s spare time is mainly spent with her pets, she has two horses Levi and George, a Labradoodle named Lenny and a dwarf lop rabbit Bonnie.

Katie Syms

Veterinarian (BVSc)

Katie Joined the team at GVC in September 2019. Before coming to Glenorie, Katie has worked at small animal clinic in Sydney’s north shore. Katie graduated from Sydney university and since then has worked mainly with cats and dogs. Her main area of interest are medicine, skin, and imaging.

When not at work she can be found walking her dogs which are Border Collies by the name of Hamish and Hazel, or at one of the local cafes having some brunch.

Meg Uebel

Veterinarian (BVSc)

Meg grew up in Arcadia and her family has been coming to GVC for 25 years. After graduating from JCU in Townsville she moved down to Bathurst to work in a busy mixed animal practice for close to 5 years. After moving back be closer to her family in Sydney in October 2023, she has joined the team at GVC and hasn’t looked back. She enjoys treating all animals and is happy to see whatever walks, hops or flies into the clinic. Outside of work she is an avid Parkrunner, enjoys camping and spending time with her dog Sven and cat Minkie.

Karen Shannahan

Practice Manager

Karen is the Practice Manager at GVC. Before joining the clinic, Karen was a long-term client and loved the caring, knowledgeable people that she dealt with here.

After more than 20 years of experience as a business consultant in Sydney’s North-West, Karen now enjoys her role looking after the practice and the team and giving extra cuddles to any patient that needs them!

Head Nurse (VN Cert 4)

Lerissa has been part of the GVC team since 2016. Lerissa loves working with all the different species of the animals that came into the clinic but has a special soft spot for the geriatric patients. Nothing warms her heart more than a happy grey face! At home she has her 2 chiweenies Daphne and Walter and her 2 cheeky cats Reginald and Gary. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her partner and her son enjoying the serenity of the Hawkesbury.

Veterinary Nurse (VN Cert 4)

Shakiah came to Glenorie Vet Clinic for her Tafe Vet nursing placement. Now she has fully completed her qualification, she has not had a thought about walking back out the front door. Shak enjoys working with the small animals right through to the larger animals being hands on getting dirty is the best part. Being able to know your clients by name and face and seeing them on a regular basis makes a great relationship to our clinic.  Shak has a soft spot especially for all animals which need a little more love and care when they may be a little scared. Seeing the trust and bond formed between staff and the patient is a miracle show. When Shak is not in clinic she is working outdoors and keeping on the ball - this includes riding and playing with her horses. She also has two very beloved English Staffies called Skye and Willow. Skye is Willow’s mum who plays and guides her throughout her adulthood. Willow is Shak’s shadow who comes to work with her daily and enjoys seeing her furry friends at work and playing in the mud.

Veterinary Nurse (VN Cert 4)

Morgan has been working at Glenorie Vet Clinic since January 2020. She is a local in the area and has been a GVC client over the last 15 years. Morgan’s passion for helping animals was made evident in 2018 when she rescued her now dog on holidays overseas. From that point forward, she realised that helping animals was her passion. She has a soft spot for in-need animals that need a little extra TLC. She also has a black cat named Poppy who came into the clinic as a stray at just a week old. Poppy was meant to be put up for adoption, but she fitted in so well she is now in the category ‘foster fail’. In her spare time, she loves taking her dog on a morning walk and grabbing a coffee (who doesn’t).

Chloe Emblem

Veterinary Nurse (VN Cert 4)

Chloe joined the team in February 2022. Before starting at Glenorie, Chloe was working in a busy 24-hour emergency hospital in the Penrith area. Chloe really enjoys working with all different types of species we treat here at GVC. She has a big soft spot for the large breeds of dogs (especially, Maremma’s!) but loves the smaller breed just as much! She also loves getting to cuddle all the beautiful cats and kittens that come in. When she’s not at work she’s spending lots of time walking and playing with Bear her Maremma or she’s spending time with family and friends. Although Chloe has only been here for a short time, she has loved meeting all the wonderful clients that come through our doors and is excited to continue to meet some friendly new faces.

Paula Middlebrook

Veterinary Nurse

Paula joined the wonderful team at Glenorie Vet Clinic in 2022 as a Veterinary Nurse. Paula has had the privilege of working with Jenni previously and is thrilled to be part of the friendly team at Glenorie. Paula is really looking forward to getting to know and help the clients and pets of the Clinic.

Paula has been lucky to have had a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a German Shorthaired Pointer previously in the family and now has Winston the Whippet who loves meeting new friends when we are at work and traveling around.

Free time is often spent with friends or traveling to see family……. the road less taken is always appealing and stopping to support rural shops, generally followed through ‘Buy from the Bush’.

Genevieve Boyd

Veterinary Nurse (VN Cert 4)

Genevieve started working at GVC in October 2021 to gain experience for TAFE. She felt at home right away with a great working team that made every shift at the clinic exciting. Every day at the clinic there is something new to learn and always an animal to care for and cuddle. Genevieve spends her free time riding her horse CJ and playing with her cheeky kelpie Banjo.

Clinic Cat (Chill-out specialist Children's entertainer)

Kosci was brought to the clinic during the summer of 2019. He stuck around for a while, and we ended up signing the adoption papers for him to stay at the GVC (we love him a lot). He’s a character that’s for sure. When he’s not laying in the sun outside on his lead pretending he’s a dog, you’ll find him sleeping on the front reception counter waiting to be patted by our clients.

Clinic Cat

Dottie is the princess of Glenorie Vet Clinic. She arrived at GVC in September 2020 with her babies. We looked after them until the kittens were able to be adopted out, but we fell in love with Dot and decided to keep her. She LOVES being doated on by all our clients (she really is the face of GVC)
