Regulations for taking a pet dog to Russia (USSR)

Briefly  will need proof of a valid rabies vaccination and canine/feline infectious diseases vaccinations as well as a health certificate ( issued by Aqis state veterinarian)

If all requirements are followed, no quarantine is require

Start by geting a Notice of Intention to Export Live Animals a 9 page document from the australian goverment - State vets fill it in .

Melbourne Aqis vet information:

  • Your pet traveling to Russia must originate from an area that has been free of rabies for at least 6 months Australia is rabies free at May 2017
  • ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit pet microchip implanted by your veterinarian. The Victorian Aqis vet will confirm this during the veterinary visit.
  • Rabies vaccination must be performed between 21 days(ideally 30) and 12 months before the departure – Rabies vaccination is routinely stocked at  Burwood Vet– just book an Aqis rabies visit,
  • Dogs must be vaccinated against the following diseases: distemper, hepatitis, viral enteritis, parvovirus and adenovirus infections. The C5
  • Dogs also need leptospirosis vaccinations
  • Cats travel;ling to Russia must be vaccinated against panleukemia. Cats must also undergo tests for dermatophytoses with samples processed at an approved laboratory.
  • A Australian Quarantine licensed veterinarian must complete a Veterinary Certificate for Russia within 5 days of travel indicating that the animals are clinically healthy and vaccinated against rabies.

 

Further Requirements for importing your dog or cat to Russia:

  • ISO Pet Microchip - Required

    Internal and External Parasite Treatment - Not required but recommended

 

Rabies Vaccination and Certificate

All pets must have an original Rabies Certificate and this certificate must state the microchip number, the date of inoculation and the validity of the particular vaccination you obtain. This vaccine must be an inactivated vaccine and must be administered more than 30 days and less than one year before the day of departure.

Veterinary Requirements

To bring a cat or a dog into Russia the owner must hold a veterinary document with proof of vaccination against rabies and feline (or canine) infectious diseases. The pet must have been vaccinated within the last twelve months and preferably at least one month prior to its arrival in Russia. The document must contain the microchip number (if available), the date of inoculation and the validity of the particular vaccination.
