Brief Notes  for Importation of Dogs and Cats export into Sri Lanka - Aqis veterinarain

The guidelines for importation  or dogs and cats to Sri Lanka are 

 

Dogs exort  to Sri Lanka - Aqis accredited vet 

 

  1. The Dog has lived  in Australia for the last 6  months  
  2. OPTIONAL if returning back to Australia  there is a -Rnat – rabies tire  test (csiro aahl Geelong about $300. 
  3. C5  vaccinations up to date (est $40) Dogs should be vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis,  parvovirus and kennel cough. Cats should be vaccinated against feline infectious enteritis, respiratory viral diseases
  4. Leptospirosis vaccination upto date if done with  (est $40)
  5. Rabies vac  1- 6 months pre vaccination std rabies export certificate (est $86 )
  6. Heartworm testing  –  IFA Dirofilaria immitus – (est $105) - Time frame before travlellig to check.
  7. Leshmania Ift serology testing (est $160) Vetpath
  8. Babesia Gibsoni IFAt serology (es $250)  JJ
  9.  Parasite treatment within 7 days of traveling ingredients -(est $10)
  10. External parasite treatment  - (est $20)
  11. Any other testing  est Vet exam and certification and testing about $360 +( leshmania and Babesia depending on sri lanka import permit specification - total costs  $770 with thease additional tests )

  13. Sri Lanka does not quarantine healthy pets who meet the requirements: 
  14. If you export  your pet to Sri Lanka without its having had the necessary inoculations they will be given upon arrival in Sri Lanka and your pet may be quarantined. If you take your pet to Sri Lanka without first obtaining a permit, your pet will be re-exported to your country (of origin) or your pet may be put down!

  • Application
    The applicant should forward the application form using Form I, to the Director General, Department of Animal Production and Health (Contact, Director/VRA 0094 81 2389342), a minimum of two (02) weeks prior to intended date of import.
  • Health Requirements guidelines 
    Health requirement for the importation of dogs and Cats into Sri Lanka are as follows

    • The importer(Sri Lanka)  should forward an International Veterinary Certificate issued by the Government Veterinary Authority in  the exporting country  of dogs attesting that;
      • Dog has been kept in the exporting country  since birth or for the six (06) months period immediately prior to export to Sri Lanka ;
      • Dog was found to be free of any infectious or any contagious diseases at the time of   dispatch;
      • The animal was not in contact with any animals showing any clinical sign of any infectious or contagious disease including Aujeszky's disease, Filariasis, Leptospirosis, Rabies, Canine distemper, Infectious hepatitis, Canine parvo virus infection, and Dermatomycosis for a period of minimum three (03) months immediately prior to embarkation;
      • The exporting country of the animal is either free from rabies. If not, the origin of the animal is an area free from quarantine restrictions for rabies and not within a radius of 25 km from the nearest known case of rabies during the period of minimum six (06) months immediately prior to embarkation;
      • The exporting country of the animal is free from heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infestation, Leishmaniasis.( Dr Phil Leshmania is found in Kangaroos in certaain areas in Aus - so we are testing for it)
      • ###For heartworm infestation, a test have been carried out with negative test result 
      • ####The animal was vaccinated against Rabies using an anti-rabies vaccine conforming to the potency standard given by the World Health Organization (WHO), not less than thirty (30) days and not more than six (06) months immediately prior to embarkation;
      • In case of puppies under the age of three (03) months, the dam of the animal had (30) days but not less than six (06) months prior to the birth of this animal;
      • ###The Dog  c5 + lepto vaccine   not less than twenty one (21) days and not more than four (04) months immediately prior to embarkation; c5 + lepto vaccine 
      • The animal was treated within seven (07) days prior to shipment with a broad- spectrum anthelminthic recognized for its ability to eliminate internal helminths of dog.
        The animal was treated for external parasites within seven (07) days immediately prior  to shipment using a reliable parasiticide.
    • Cats
      The importer should forward an International Veterinary Certificate issued by the Government Veterinary Authority in  the exporting country of cats attesting that;
      • The cat is clinically healthy, free from signs of any infectious and contagious diseases at the time of dispatch;
      • The cat was not in contact with any animal showing any clinical signs of any infectious or contagious disease including rabies, Aujeszky’s disease, Filariasis, Leptospirosis for a period of minimum three (3) months immediately prior to embarkation;
      • The cat has been vaccinated using recognized vaccines against feline panleucopaenia and rabies not less than 30 days and not more than 06 months immediately prior to embarkation;
      • The cat has been  treated for intestinal parasites using a broad- spectrum anthelmintic and, treated for external parasites within seven (07) days immediately prior to shipment using a reliable parasiticide;.
      • The cat has been free from any blood parasite.
  • Issuing of Permits
    Once the application is reviewed , DG /DAPH will issue the permit. The permit issued to applicant/importer is valid for 90 days from the date of issue.
  • Quarantine Inspection
    • Upon arrival of animals the importer should forward the originals of the International Veterinary Certificates fulfilling requirements stated in the section(2) of this document, to the Animal Quarantine Officer, Katunayake Airport;
    • Imported dogs/cats will be subjected to quarantine inspection at the Airport. If necessary samples will be taken for investigation;
    • Imported dogs/cats will be subjected to an post-export quarantine period of thirty days (30) in the "owners premises". For this purpose, the importer should sign the Quarantine Surveillance Agreement with the Animal Quarantine Officer, Katunayake, at the time of importation
      The exact location (address and the Tel. No) of the premises where imported dogs /cats intended to be kept, should be stated by the importer in the quarantine surveillance agreement.
  • Other Information
    The cats are not allowed to import from  BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy /mad cow disease) infected  countries.

  • 1. Application

    The applicant should submit an online application form using Form ‘FO/VRA/01’, to the Director General, Department of Animal Production and Health (Contact, 0094 81 2388120 Ext 231), 7days prior to intended date of import.

    2. Health Certificates

    Health requirement for the importation of dogs and Cats into Sri Lanka are as follows.

    2.1. Dogs
    2.1.1. International Veterinary Health Certificate

    Issued by the Government Veterinary Authority in  the exporting country, attesting that;

  • Dog Identity with a Microchip Number.
  • Dog has been kept in the exporting country since birth or for the six (o6) months period immediately prior to export to Sri Lanka;
  • The animal was found to be free of any infectious or any contagious diseases at the time of dispatch;
  • The animal was not in contact with animals showing clinical sign of any infectious or contagious disease including Aujeszky's disease, Filariasis, Leptospirosis, Rabies, Canine distemper, Infectious hepatitis, Canine parvo virus infection, and Dermatomycosis for a period of minimum three (03) months immediately prior to embarkation;
  • The exporting country of the animal is either free from rabies. If not, the origin of the animal is an area free from quarantine restrictions for rabies and not within a radius of 25 km from the nearest known case of rabies during the period of minimum six (06) months immediately prior to embarkation;
  • 2.1.2. Blood Test Reports

  • Negative test results for heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) with (ELISA/PCR//Knott’s) test done 7 days prior embarkation. If not the country free status declared a government veterinarian.
  • Negative test results for blood parasites including Babesiosis and Leishmaniasis.
  • 2.1.3. Vaccination Records  official vaccination certificate

  • Against Rabies using an anti-rabies vaccine conforming to the potency standard given by the World Health Organization (WHO), not less than thirty (30) days and not more than six (06) months immediately prior to embarkation; In case of puppies under the age of three (03) months, the dam of the animal had vaccinated not less than (30) days but not more than six (06) months prior to the birth of this animal;
  • The animal was  vaccinated against Canine Distemper, Infectious Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Canine parvo virus infection using recognized vaccines,not less than twenty one (21) days and not more than four (04) months immediately prior to embarkation;
  • 2.1.4. Parasitic Treatment Records

  • The animal was  treated with a broad- spectrum anthelminthic recognized for its ability to eliminate internal helminths of dog, within seven (07) days prior to shipment
  • The animal was treated for external parasites within seven (07) days immediately prior  to shipment using a reliable parasiticide.
  • 2.2. Cats
    2.2.1. nternational Veterinary Health Certificate issued by the Government Veterinary Authority in the exporting country attesting that;

  • Cat Identity with a Microchip Number.
  • The cat is clinically healthy, free from signs of any infectious and contagious diseases and without any deformity at the time of dispatch;
  • The cat was not in contact with animal showing clinical signs of any infectious or contagious disease including Rabies, Aujeszky’s disease, Filariasis, Leptospirosis for a period of minimum three (3) months immediately prior to embarkation;
  • 2.2.2. Blood Test Reports

  • Negative test results for heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis)with (ELISA/PCR//Knott’s) test done 7 days prior embarkation. If not the country free status declared a government veterinarian.
  • 2.2.3. Vaccination Records

  • The cat has been vaccinated using recognized vaccines against Feline panleucopaenia and Rabies,not less than 30 days and not more than 06 months prior to embarkation.
  • 2.2.4. Parasitic Treatment Records

  • The cat has been treated for intestinal parasites using a reliable broad- spectrum anthelmintic and, for external parasites within seven (07) days immediately prior to shipment.
  • 3. Issuing Permits

    Import permit is issued for the duly filled Application submit along with above indicated authenticated health certificates as attachments. The permit is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and it is issued free of charge.

    4. Quarantine Inspection

  • Upon arrival of animals the importer should forward the originals of the International Veterinary Certificates fulfilling requirements stated in the section(2) of this document, to the Animal Quarantine Officer, Katunayake Airport;
  • Imported dogs/cats are subjected to quarantine inspection at the Airport. Samples will be taken for investigation; upon testing if the animal become positive for heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis)the animal is subjected to destroy or reexport, decided by the Animal Quarantine Officer.
  • Imported dogs/cats will be subjected to an post-export quarantine or detain at the period of thirty days (30) in the "owners premises". For this purpose, the importer should sign the Quarantine Surveillance Agreement with the Animal Quarantine Officer, Katunayake, at the time of importation.
  • The exact location; address and the contact no. of the premises where imported dogs /cats intended to be kept,should be stated by the importer in the quarantine surveillance agreement

Dog export to Sri Lanka from Australia - Aqis Vet.

 

There are No  universal requirements for the export of dogs to Sri Lanka from Australia. The following information is intended as a guide only.

 

Sri Lanka may change is procedures for importing dogs to Sri Lanka from Australia without advice to the Department. You should check the import permit and/or the Sri Lanka dog importation website at the time of preparation for export.

 

The following information was sourced from the Procedure for Dogs and Cats on the Department of Animal Production & Health website:

 

Dog Identity with a Microchip Number.

 

Dogs are over 4 months or more before export to Sri Lanka from Australia.

 

The dog has been kept in Australia since birth or for the six (06) month period immediately prior to export to Sri Lanka from Australia .

 

The dog was found to be clinically healthy, free of any infectious or any contagious diseases and without deformity at the time of export.

 

The animal was not in contact with any animals showing any clinical sign of any infectious or contagious disease including Aujeszky's disease, filariasis, leptospirosis, rabies, canine distemper, infectious hepatitis, canine parvovirus infection, dermatomycosis for a period of a minimum three (03) months immediately before embarkation.

 

Australia is free from rabies.

 

The dog was tested in a government-approved / recognised laboratory for

  1. Dirofilaria immitis (Heart worm),

  2. Canine Babesiosis (Bebesia gibsoni and Babesia canis) and

  3. Leishmaniosis Real time PCR Test.

 

Blood Test Reports:

1. Negative test result for heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) with (ELISA/PCR/Knott's) test done within 30 days before embarkation. Or the country's free status should be declared by a government veterinary authority.

 

2. Negative test results for blood parasites include babesiosis (Bebesia gibsoni and Babesia canis) and leishmaniasis test done by ELISA or PCR test method 30 days prior to embarkation.

 

3.Negative test reports of Dirofilaria immitis (Heart Worm), Canine Babesiosis (Bebesia gibsoni and Babesia canis) and Leishmaniosis Real time PCR Test Result should be certified by an authorized officer of Quarantine or Government approved Veterinary surgeon.

 

Vaccination Records

The animal was vaccinated against rabies using an anti-rabies vaccine conforming to the potency standard given by the World Health Organization (WHO), no less than thirty (30) days and no more than ten (10) months immediately prior to embarkation. In case of puppies under the age of ten (10) months, booster vaccine must be given within 14 days interval from the 1st vaccine.

 

The animal was vaccinated using recognised vaccines against canine distemper, infectious hepatitis, leptospirosis, canine parvovirus infection using recognised vaccines no less than twenty-one (21) days and no more than ten (10) months immediately prior to embarkation. In case of puppies under the age of six (06) months, booster vaccine must be given within 14 days interval from the 1st vaccine.

 

Parasitic Treatment Records

 

The animal was treated with a broad-spectrum anthelminthic recognised for its ability to eliminate internal helminths of dog within ten (10) days prior to shipment.

 

The animal was treated with a parasiticide recognised for its ability to eliminate external parasites within ten (10) days immediately prior to shipment.
