The aqis vet in Melbourne recommends a rabies vaccination done 21 days at least before travel - although it is not a requirement to enter the America, it is usually be done on arrival in America. As there is already enough stress associated with travel and processing on the pet already - and the possibility of a vaccine reaction The USA officials have accepted our rabies certificates in the past.

To protect public health within the United States, importers who bring dogs to the United States must make sure that their dogs are adequately vaccinated against rabies before arrival - As Australia is rabies free this requirement is not necessary when dogs are traveling to the USA. - except for a few exceptions in specific states. The CDC ( Centers for Disease Control) allows unvaccinated dogs to be imported without proof of a rabies vaccination if they have lived in a country that is considered rabies free for a minimum of six months or since birth.
