Meet Our Team

Dr Leisa Brown

Veterinarian (BVSc (Hons))

Leisa graduated from the University of QLD in 2006 and worked in Armidale and Goondiwindi prior to starting Guyra District Veterinary Services in 2009. She loves all aspects of rural mixed practice, from working with livestock through to caring for companion animals. Leisa is pictured with her beloved dog 'Dave' who has been given the title of 'Practise Manager' but despite his experience, still hasn't mastered how to answer the phone. Leisa also has a rescued greyhound - 'Betty'. Betty is a special girl and has generously donated her blood on many occasions to save the lives of other dogs in need. Leisa and husband Trent also have three 2-legged children to complete the family and help out on their small sheep and cattle property.

Dr Ainslie Lund

Veterinarian (BVSc (Hons))

Ainslie graduated from Sydney University in 2012. She is originally from Newcastle NSW and has always had a keen interest in cattle and sheep medicine. Prior to joining us in 2014 she was working as a District Veterinarian, which gave her a great grounding in parasite management, cattle disease/mortality outbreaks and the investigation of reproductive problems. Ainslie has two beautiful children and two dogs - 'Fred' (collie x) and 'Gemma' (Whippet). Ainslie is passionate about educating people in responsible pet ownership and frequently rehomes cats and dogs via her rescue group "Friends of Fred".

Joanne Westwood

Veterinarian (BVSc (Hons))

Jo started at Guyra District Veterinary Services in May 2019, and is a real asset to our team with a wealth of knowledge and experience in both small and large animal medicine and surgery. She has previously worked in the Glen Innes region for 10 years as well as in Longreach as a mixed practitioner. Jo studied at the University of Queensland where she received honours at the completion of her studies. She lives on a property with her husband and 6 children and when not acting as taxi driver for her children, Jo loves to tend her garden and milk her house cow. If any of us are in need of a sugar hit, Jo always has a sneaky bag of lollies and her easy going nature and happy smile makes all clients and patients feel welcome as soon as they walk through the door.

Bec Bennett

Senior Vet Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing)

Bec grew up in the Goondiwindi region and after a year as a jillaroo in the NT made the move back to sunny Guyra with husband Mitch in 2015. Bec completed her veterinary nursing while working at the UQ Goondiwindi Pastoral Veterinary Centre, and is without doubt one of the best you will ever find! Bec can multi-task with the best of them and despite being a red head, has an uncanny ability to stay calm at all times. She remains a faithful servent to 'Maple' (Pug x) and 'Winnie' and 'Stewart' (Cats) and enjoys a wrestle with her humble steed 'Stella'. Bec and her husband own a small Angus stud and enjoy all the challenges and rewards that go along with any beef cattle enterprise.

Tanya Lafford-Raper

Groomer

Tanya has been grooming dogs at GDVS since February 2014. Originally from Ireland and growing up in London, she has lived in Guyra since 2012. Tanya and her husband are kept very busy with 4 sons, 5 dogs (including a rescue greyhound), 2 pet sheep, birds and chickens. Tanya is passionate about her grooming work and we are extremely fortunate to have her providing this service to our clients.

Amy Tarrant

Veterinary Nurse

Amy joined Guyra District Vets as a vet nurse in 2018. She has attained valuable skills from previous work with the RSPCA and her ongoing work at Kiwelli Kennels and Cattery. Amy's bubbly personality and enthusiasm for life make her the perfect choice to be appointed as social media manager of the clinic's Facebook page. Amy enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing and is passionate about future goals to complete her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE NSW. She loves spending her weekends travelling to rodeos to support her boyfriend Samuel in his role as bull fighter.

Steph Cameron

Kennel Hand

The youngest member of our team is Steph Cameron. Steph did her work experience with us in 2017 which lead to her gaining part time work with us after school. Steph is from a local farming family which has given her a passion and thurst for knowledge for any aspect of the veterinary industry. She is highly academic at school and has also competed at a state level for hockey as well as zone level for various other sporting ventures. There is not much spare time for Steph, but when she gets a break, she helps out on the family farm and enjoys travelling and spending time with friends and family.
