Ophthalmic Care

Ophthalmology is a specialized area of veterinary care focused on the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions in animals. For certain breeds, this service may also include the examination and certification of breeding dogs to ensure ocular health.

Comprehensive eye examinations require specialized equipment. Our veterinarians utilize tools such as an ophthalmoscope, which provides magnified illumination to evaluate internal eye structures. We may also employ fluorescein dye, which fluoresces green or yellow under UV light, to detect corneal injuries. Additionally, a tonometer may be used to measure intraocular pressure, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions such as glaucoma.

While many ocular conditions can be managed with medical therapy, certain cases may necessitate surgical intervention.

Our practice is fully equipped to perform a range of ophthalmic surgical procedures, including:

• Enucleation – surgical removal of the eye in cases of severe glaucoma or ocular cancer.
• Entropion surgery – correction of inward-rolling eyelids to prevent corneal irritation or damage.
• Ectropion surgery – repair of outward-turned lower eyelids to restore proper eyelid function.
• Eyelid tumour removal – excision of neoplastic growths affecting the eyelids.
• Cherry eye surgery – correction of prolapse of the third eyelid in dogs.
• Corneal ulcer repair – surgical treatment of ulcers affecting the surface of the eye.
